CARP Ltd. was formed as a Social Enterprise not for profit private limited company by three of the members of Carnforth Area Regeneration Partnership with a view to putting some of the projects identified by the Partnership into practice. The first of these projects was the Carnforth Connect Line 1 bus service connecting the outlying villages of Warton, the Yealands, Beetham and the town of Milnthorpe with Carnforth Railway Station. The main object of the service is to provide the vital link between these and the train services. The service was initially run by Lancashire County Council. In 2006 the service came under threat as a result of budget cuts. A local action group was formed and funding eventually won from North West Development Board, this funding guaranteed the service until the end of March 2008. In April 2007 we also undertook the management of the Bittern Bus service. This service ceased in April 2008 due to lack of finance and support. In November 2008 C.A.R.P. Ltd encountered difficulties in raising the necessary finance to support the bus from local private industry. Lancashire County Council took the service back under their control and in February 2009 announced that the service was secure for a further 3 years and would be combined with the Silverdale Shuttle. A new waterbus was delivered in October 2008 and is operating from Barton Grange Garden Centre at the weekend. From May a full service has been operating between Lancaster and Carnforth Monday to Friday, full details are available via the link www.admin.budgie@wyrenet.co.uk. Bus information and timetables are up to date. |
